Hot Neon partnered with Equimundo, in association with the Global Boyhood Initiative, to create an interactive eLearning course, delivered through LearnDash, that helps educators understand why boys disengage from school and what they can do about it in their own classrooms. Grounded in global research and built on an strengths-based approach, the course treats boys as partners in change rather than a problem to be solved.
Boys’ disengagement from education rarely comes from a single cause. It builds in layers, from what a boy believes about himself to what’s expected of him at home, what his friends say, what his community rewards, and what the economy around him pays for. Ideas about masculinity run through every one of those layers, and factors like poverty, migration, disability, and identity can overlap to compound the barriers further.
Educators needed more than the headline that “boys are falling behind.” They needed research they could trust, translated into guidance they could use the next day.
Our challenge was to turn dense global data into a learning experience that felt human, practical, and relevant across very different contexts.
Hot Neon developed Boys & Education, a three-module learning journey that moves educators from understanding the problem, to taking boys seriously, to acting in the classroom utilizing hand-drawn illustrations with interactions to amplify the content create more impact
Both Equimundo and Global Boyhood Initiative was thrilled with the finished course. It was designed to deliver outcomes across four key areas:
Shared Understanding: Giving educators a common language for why boys disengage, from individual beliefs through to wider social and economic systems.
Research Made Practical: Translating global data and evidence into concrete, classroom-ready strategies that educators can apply right away.
Empathy Through Personas: Helping learners see the human side of disengagement through composite boys they can recognize in their own classrooms.
Confidence to Act: Equipping educators with tools, conversation structures, and real world examples so they feel prepared to prevent and respond to disengagement.
We partnered with BC Cancer to create a 4-minute animated video aimed at demonstrating the importance and process of advance care planning (ACP). The video focuses on the patient journey through a first-person narrative, utilizing 2D animation to elicit emotions and emphasize the value of ACP.
Hot Neon worked with Accent Inns to conduct research into the orientation priorities of their different locations. We conducted focus groups at properties across the province to learn about the unique concerns and challenges with onboarding new employees.
We collaborated to develop an interactive eLearning course for healthcare providers, focusing on delivering safe, non-stigmatizing care to sex workers. The project aimed to break down barriers to accessing care, ultimately leading to better health outcomes and reduced healthcare costs.
