Lucidchart users were struggling to unlock one of the platform’s most powerful features: Conditional Formatting. Despite its potential to transform static diagrams into dynamic, data-driven visuals, many intermediate-to-advanced users didn’t even know the feature existed. Those who discovered it found themselves overwhelmed by perceived complexity, unclear value propositions, and learning resources that felt abstract or irrelevant to their day-to-day work.
Hot Neon developed a narrative-driven Fast-Class experience that puts users in the shoes of a fictitious character named Mia, a Product Operations Manager at PaddleGuru who transforms chaotic spreadsheet data into a clear, dynamic visual story. This 10-15 minute learning journey follows a strategic WHY/WHAT/HOW structure, making complex features feel accessible and immediately applicable.
The course weaves together foundational concepts such as: If/Then logic, rule ordering and data linking, with advanced techniques like custom formulas and duplicator tools, as well as exciting innovations like AI-generated rules, dynamic shapes, branded visuals.
Interactive components and optional “pause and try” prompts keep learners engaged, while a downloadable cheat sheet (“Mia’s Rules for Rules”) provides ongoing support after completion.
Rather than abstract tutorials, users experience the real-world value through Mia’s journey: saving time, reducing errors, and creating diagrams that actually work for their teams.

This story-driven approach transforms how users discover and adopt Conditional Formatting. By showcasing authentic business value through a relatable character, the Fast-Class breaks down adoption barriers and builds user confidence. Learners don’t just understand the features – they see exactly how to apply them to create diagrams that evolve with their business needs.
The program empowers users to move from static documentation to living, breathing visuals that automatically highlight what matters most. Instead of spending hours collecting information or running around for updates, teams can rely on diagrams that surface insights, accelerate alignment, and drive more intentional conversations that lead to impactful actions.
We partnered with BC Cancer to create a 4-minute animated video aimed at demonstrating the importance and process of advance care planning (ACP). The video focuses on the patient journey through a first-person narrative, utilizing 2D animation to elicit emotions and emphasize the value of ACP.
Hot Neon worked with Accent Inns to conduct research into the orientation priorities of their different locations. We conducted focus groups at properties across the province to learn about the unique concerns and challenges with onboarding new employees.
We collaborated to develop an interactive eLearning course for healthcare providers, focusing on delivering safe, non-stigmatizing care to sex workers. The project aimed to break down barriers to accessing care, ultimately leading to better health outcomes and reduced healthcare costs.
